You have spent hours designing and knitting your masterpiece -- let me help polish and smooth out any rough edges

Tech Editing for your knitting pattern

Whether you need someone to check the readability of your simple pattern or someone to work with you to make a complex design clearly charted, written, and error-free, you need a tech editor. I have been knitting for decades and have taught beginner and advance classes. I have a comprehensive understanding of a wide variety of techniques including lace, cables, fair isle, twined knitting, entrelac, etc. and will help you create a well-written, clear and understandable pattern for your customers. In my life before children, I worked as a Research Lab Manager where I analyzed data to find genetic mutations and I have work published in scientific journals, so I understand the importance of accuracy and attention to detail.

I edit knitting designs for sweaters, garments, accessories, and home decor. I especially like working with lace and charts.  I thoroughly and carefully review all aspects of the pattern including:

spelling, abbreviations, punctuation and grammatical accuracy
comparing charts and written instructions to ensure they correlate with each other and the finished product
confirming schematics match the given instructions
reviewing shaping instructions and confirm that sleeves fit into arm holes, neckbands work, etc
ensuring final measurements work according to gauge and stitch count, taking ease and fit into consideration
verifying stitch counts add up correctly row by row for all sizes
checking that wording and instructions are clear and follow a good flow

Additional services include layout design, creating schematics, and/or creating charts for lace, textured, and colored patterns to give your design a more professional finish.

Unless otherwise requested I refer to the CYC for standardizations. If you have a style sheet or there are other standards you would prefer to have your pattern checked against, please let me know and that is what I will use.

I currently charge on a per-pattern basis based on the size and complexity of the pattern and the level of editing required. My typical turnaround time is 3-5 business days for the first edit. I am usually able to do an emergency edit in under 3 days as a rush request, but there is a $10 flat fee in addition to my standard rates for this. You can expect any email or phone call to be returned within 24 hours. I believe clear communication is the key to a successful business relationship.

Initial consultation and final review are free and I will not charge more than the agreed upon rate without consulting you first. After you have incorporated any suggested changes I will do a second check of the revised pattern as part of my service. When you are satisfied that your pattern is complete I will send you an invoice via PayPal. Payment is due within 15 days of invoicing.

Below is an estimate of current rates:

Simple accessories- $25-30
Complex accessories- $35-50
Simple garments- $30-50
Complex garments- $45-60
Creating charts and schematics: price varies by project.
